Bulb Eater® Comes to Barbadian Shores

Monday, November 14, 2011

Looks like the Bulb Eater® is taking yet another working vacation. The machine has spent time in Bermuda and aboard an Alaskan cruise ship, but this journey takes it on a lamp-crunching mission to Barbados. The Bulb Eater will be used to properly dispose of spent fluorescent lamps in order to prevent mercury from contaminating the local environment, according to this article in the Barbados Advocate.

“In such a beautiful country as Barbados, we have an opportunity to leapfrog technology that other organisations have developed over the years and make a difference [...] I want to play my part to help our economy and environment,” noted Jim Reid, member of Barbados Renewable Energy Association, which spearheaded the effort to obtain the Bulb Eater.

The Bulb Eater® lamp crusher can reduce the overall costs of recycling large quantities of lamps by up to 50% over other methods, while safely preventing mercury from contaminating the facility or the environment. Learn more » Bulb Eater® lamp crusher

Celebrate America Recycles Day!

Sometimes, the idea of keeping harmful materials out of the environment can seem like a no-brainer. But many individuals and businesses are still unaware of the negative environmental impacts that can result from throwing away things like old batteries or a spent fluorescent lamp.

On November 15, thousands across the country will act to change that through events celebrating America Recycles Day, a nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting recycling in the United States. Click here to search for events in your area, and take a moment tomorrow to recycle some waste and remind a friend to do the same.

Friday, November 4, 2011

The goals of a typical lighting system seem straightforward: the facility should be well-lit and energy efficient.

But making it happen can be a challenge. This article from FacilitiesNet provides the key principles to remember when designing a lighting system, in order to turn these goals into reality.

The lamps of even the most efficient lighting system eventually burn out. When they do, efficiently recycle them with the Bulb Eater® lamp crusher, capable of reducing recycling labor requirements by up to 20 hours per 1,000 lamps and storage requirements by up to 80%.
