New York Law to Require E-Waste Recycling in 2012

Beginning January 1, 2012 most New York facilities will be required to recycle their electronic waste under the NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Law.

The new law covers spent computers, televisions and small-scale servers as well as computer peripherals such as monitors, printers and scanners.

U.S. Launches National Strategy for Electronics Stewardship

The White House Council on Environmental Quality has launched a new initiative to encourage the recycling of used or discarded electronics in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, General Services Administration (GSA), and executives of major electronics manufacturers.

Under the plan, entitled National Strategy for Electronics Stewardship, the GSA will ensure the use of energy-efficient electronics and electronic waste recycling in all federal agencies of the federal government, currently the largest single user of electronics in the U.S.
